Benjamin Orr (born Benjamin Orzechowski on September 8, 1947, in Lakewood, Ohio; died October 3, 2000, in Atlanta, Georgia) was an American musician and singer, best known as the bassist and co-lead vocalist for the rock band The Cars.
Musical Career: Orr gained fame as a member of The Cars, contributing significantly to the band's distinctive sound with his melodic bass lines and smooth vocals. He sang lead on several of the band's hit songs, including "Just What I Needed," "Drive," and "Let's Go." Prior to The Cars, he was involved in various Cleveland-area bands.
Vocals and Bass: Orr's vocal style was characterized by its mellow and emotive quality. As the bassist, he provided a solid rhythmic foundation for the band's new wave/rock sound.
Solo Career: In the late 1980s, Orr pursued a solo career, releasing the album The Lace in 1986. The album featured the single "Stay the Night," which reached the Top 40.
Personal Life: Benjamin Orr had a complicated personal life, facing challenges with substance use and relationships.
Death: He died of pancreatic cancer in 2000 at the age of 53, shortly after a reunion with some of his former bandmates from The Cars.
